danse club 16th release welcomes greek producer, sek also of ama, morris audio, large. the release kicks off with everybody, a bumping and groove filled slice of deep house that employs a simple bass, a filtered piano chord groove and sparse vocal hits. next up is no matter what, a driving, garage influenced record which is sure to send dance floors crazy. last but not least the b2, sofa king high. a laid back, deep, sleezy house record with distorted chords, smooth bass and addictive vocals.

known as pantaleon perez prado, was the younger brother of the famous king of mambo. pantaleon, who came to europe in the 1950s, recorded several albums with unifunk. a powerful big funk band sound featuring: tullio de piscopo, mario rusca, giancarlo barigozzi, pino prestipino and others. escandalo!, as perez prado states in the brief sleeve note, is named after a new rhythm created by himself. *a rhythm you can dance to in freedom, without specific steps*. in spite of this naive launching, the opening track chicago banana is a declaration of intent, with its sly stone-esque groove. 9 out of 12 tracks are originals credited to composers of the unifunk circle, but the track list is careful to preserve prados well-established latin appeal, by including three standards such as brazil, el manisero and tequila.

celebrated ambient artist john beltran jointly release not one but two vinyl compilations on delsin records in association with his own dado label.

what more can be said about carl cox the term legend is thrown about way too easily in electronic music, but there is no question about the status of dance music historys most recognisable global figure. a musical ambassador, a veteran of acid house, a champion of techno and a professional dj since his early teens. carl has been playing music, breaking tunes and celebrating life and never losing sight of his passions for over 30 years.

the second release of inkblots involves three great artists deeply active into the international techno scene: the japanese go hiyama and the berlin based duo i/y. on side a, go hiyama’s first track ‘recur’ delivers sinister atmospheres matched with a tough kick and industrial bleepy elements. slow and paranoic drones get in and out contributing to enlarge the sound perception. the second track ‘prop’ introduces elegant hi-hats and strident synths. a captivating kick perfectly embraces the shrill synths waving together with the sharp drum, what remains of the first side is just tense ambients, forewarning the journey is not over. side b smells like a dark club firing up, indeed i/y’s aim is not different at all. ’thesys 0000.001’ debuts with a thin bassline and distorted grave surroundings. the track evolves with clean slap hats sound in an empty echo chamber. deep timbres rise and fall, turning the entire route gently aggressive. the second track is an idm experiment which keeps a trippy approach and the clarity of claps and hi-hats. solid as the first one, ‘thesys 0000.003’ sets itself as an hypnotic but pleasant moment where suspicious fragments quickly appear and disappear: a sparkled trip to be enjoyed anytime but not by anyone.

the second of the three vinyl eps featuring tracks from perc trax’s ‘slowly exploding’ compilation groups together three of the label’s main artists and closes with a producer making his perc trax debut. the a1 slot goes to label boss perc, whose ‘hyperlink’ builds on the sound of the dancefloor tracks of his last album with a huge kick giving way to swooping 8-bit chords whilst sawf’s ‘goves’, already tried and tested by perc over the last few months is an unrelenting breakbeat monster. on the b-side truss delivers one of the stand-out tracks of this series, with the surgeon supported analogue juggernaut that is ‘brockweir. closing things off is drvg cvltvre, who lowers the tempo but not the intensity with one of his trademark 303 workouts.

the third release from wavefreform again comes to us from the east, and this time around it marks a reformation of sound for both the label and the artist. half of the long-running georgian duo greenbeam & leon, boyd schidt is a producer with over a decade of work already under his belt whose first releases emerged in 2007. as a solo artist, his career dates to 2010 with digital releases on georgia’s front rec, fvf records, and emote music, and a track on the new vinyl compilation from studio r°. with the hard, broken kick pattern, elevated tempo, and nods to electro, the a-side ‘phantom’, a collaboration with subex, is a change of pace for the artist and the hardest thing yet to emerge from wavereform. dubwise use of effects shows the same hands still at work, but the sound elements, granulated blasts of static and drop-based structure of the track hold strong parallels to the rejuvenated techno sound currently emerging from the uk. the b-side, ‘structure’, recalls the previous work of the artist: subtle, building dub techno rich in detail and with the dancefloor firmly in mind. there is clear experience at work here with his deliberate deployment and manipulation of elements as the track struts along while enveloping the listener in its smaller details. as it pauses and takes an extended breakdown, the details rush forwards, but it finds renewed force to power itself to the close. coming in this case from an established producer with a long history, this kind of control is not surprising, but it is more indication of the riches of the east that have yet to be discovered by audiences worldwide.

f = ma is an hard techno ep, dynamic and pressing both for side a and side b. a two-track ep that was inspired by the physics formula s second law of motion which states that the acceleration of a body is directly proportional and in the same direction of the force acting on it, while it is inversely proportional to its mass . the track on side a, entitled -massa- is a techno track, properly basic, structured on a massive scale, and that is why it was chosen as the track for side a minded for a dance floor set. a piece that starts with decision, full of body and massive , and that is why was named massa. the track on the b side, -accelerazione- is more quite, but another dance track for this great disc. a bit more slender and smooth, with broad- acceleration in a dance floor moment certainly forwarded more than the cervical part of a set, to be spent at the end to throw the disc to the latest beats.

a real thick baseline - a fabulous ep start. of the same title dragon fly comes along with dizzying, but best placed sound effects und a bashing buildup. we love listening to that great sound. neck breaker - not neck breaking but with a most impressive vocal and creative seeded sound expericence. makes us fancy for more like this. and bäms - the ep continues with a track called roll on. quite deep and initiated with a cool vocal - very british - the composition ist a bit more funny - a good mood sound creates an appetite for more. we are hot for the release on stylerockets.

roots for bloom label boss jamie trench kicks off the label offshoot rfbcolours with a collaboration ep alongside rebel. the a side tracks come from jamie himself. -good love- has a stripped back garage feel with a jacking and filtered vocal carrying it, then stapled brings things across with a more techno feel with strong stabs and background drifting chords. the b side is where we see rebel s input, with the rolling and infectious in the end . the groove is again stripped back and simple but it s this that carries the vocal that demands your attention. the two then pair up for we don t fly first class and it s apparent to hear in the track where the two come together well. this one is driven by a huge sub bass line and simple stabs and talking and seductive vocal lines.

top tier hawaiian disco boogie masterpiece available for the first time on 45. it took us 3 years to persuade nohelani cypriano to let us do *lihue* , a brilliant fairly obscure disco boogie track but if you are a fan and you keep trying your enthusiasm for the music pays off. not only are we are just delighted to present *lihue* on 7 for the first time (previously lp only) but to top it off the flip is a track from a very rare hawaiian 45 also by nohelani called *playing with fire*, which sounds like a party track straight out your favorite 80s film. i rate it, which means it is good! its like rare-groove scene all over again but with new records.

continuing a strong line of afro inspired works, men like pedestrian & jasperdrum drop another scintillating technoid excursion on 2nd drop. deeper, moodier with dynamically carved esoteric angles, *origins* moves forward from the superb kalakuta, the afrobeat meets bass music bomb supported by giles peterson, scuba, midland, mr scruff and many more, from last year, to deliver a heads down destroyer. off kilter, wonky and expertly crafted, pedestrian & jasperdrums *origins* is pure class, led by a host of syncopated percussion, haunting flute lines and distorted vocal samples, this is what fela would have sounded like if he had teamed up with carl craig in 2014! on the flip we welcome alix perez, best known for his dnb production but widely talented as shown by his arp101 outings on the likes of eglo. here, alix takes the tools to kalakuta, transforming the originals afrocentricity into a tense, punchy roller, dominated by a bass line which literally jumps in to your ears. toss in a stabby synth line, rifle shot drums and plenty of bass with space, this a beautifully crafted refix.

red rack em is a name well known to wolf fans as he launched the first wolf white release with his deep house classic in love again. he is a master at reworking dusty grooves into peaking house bangers. that is the best way to describe this ep too. do or die is a straight up peak of the night disco jam. big sample, big bass, big track. ooh ooh ooh leans on the soulful side of his sample selections and its wonky but funky composition never fails to turn heads. the final track live at music hall is straight up deep. so, something for everyone, no messing.

kosme has dived into the depths of his soul and returned with three striking tracks, which float tightly between vitality and robust despondency.archipel emotions is deep, sincere and exceptionally personal. it leaves the listener asking questions about themselves, is there a more exotic country available other than the chaotic landscapes of our own, secret gardens? all three tracks manage to take you on a journey where the landscape under your feet is confined to the illusory, to a dimension of paradise and peace. the reshape by fred p, itself offers an ecstatic, spiritual experience. glimpses of magic have been seen before on his earlier releases but archipel emotions firmly places kosme as the pilot of this cosmic adventure. strap in people, and prepare… text written by maxime gueugneau

three is the number, basement toolz the titel. once again rat life records is taking mickey on a night out to the sewer. here are two tracks made by credit 00 with a borrowed tr 909 drum machine. side a is called korg the groove, as the title already reveals, its inspired by a classic detroit techno cut. can you tell which one it is? on the flip side you will find 909ish, one drum machine and one synthesizer, which is not much but all you need and more, plus there is extra noise on the clap to amplify your face slapping pleasure.

for amselcom, london-based jaya shakira reworked the track in her fairy-like style, adding a piano that shows off the composition talent of loversrock. for the remix of her rework decalculator brought iannis ritter s smoky voice into the project. the artists achieve a calm, but poppy convergence, which fully does justice to the original monster/by loversrock. the b-side is a trip into oldschool sample based techno funk, containing the tracks freak and shade. freak plants a funny but dangerous musical description of a techno enthusiast into your ears. the samples used in shade sound like they could ve been recorded at the zoo and present a variety of mystic sounds.

brazilian label not for us has really hit its stride of late, with original from davis and remixes by l_cio and label bosses, rods novaes and wender a., marking them out as ones to watch in 2014. their latest release arrives courtesy of a 3-track original and remix compilation, with one of the label s most emphatic moments to date, davis s love and lost , proving the basis for three very different - but equally beguiling - interpretations, with a great bassline and vocal bring more 2 remixes from l_cio with na atmospheric vibe and a more techno and dub from wender & rods, enjoy this very special release!

uncanny valley and permanent vacation are joining forces for an uncanny vacation! there has always been a lively exchange between dresden and munich and both labels are known for releasing a wide variety of music so it was only natural to team up for a joint release. the record starts off with permanent vacation-regular and uk-veteran dmx krew and his “astro logical” which is as sharp and crisp as electro can go. the bass line strikes hard but he also squeezes some great melancholic synth lines out of his machines. after that, uncanny valley’s sandrow m finally gives access to the much in demand live version of “prayervan”, a tune that everybody has been singing along during his live sets. on the flipside, jacob korn (who already released on both labels) hands in “eieiei” which rises on a percussion-heavy drum basement to a discoid house stomper thanks to an irresistible sample straight from an obscure flea market find. last but not least, drvg cvltvre from the netherlands delivers a tropical house jam. “see you again” is riding on a funky disco bass line and creates a warm and cosy atmosphere with a whole bag of sound ideas. alexander dorn aka credit 00 adds his graphical talents to the record’s sleeve with a brilliant tribute to 1990s adventure video games.

365 million years ago a meteorite crashed with tremendous force in the middle of a land mass that much later would be called sweden, creating one of her largest lakes. the area around this lake, siljan, has always been an epicenter of swedish folklore, with many tales of beautiful but dangerous creatures of the ancient forests and deep vales. perhaps, then, it s no coincidence that the skies over siljan later became the focus of unexplainable sightings, or that small societies appeared, claiming strong indications of extraterrestrial activities on the bottom of the lake itself. the tales may change over time, but the mysterious lake remains the same. and now the time has come for a new tale from siljan. producer colleagues hans berg and johanna knutsson have spent long periods of time in a studio by this lake. feeling a bit like aliens themselves with their blinking and bleeping music machines, the label name ufo station recordings came naturally. little raver ep is the first release, and throughout the three tracks you can clearly sense the contrast between the scenic landscape and sounds inspired by space and alien technology: shimmering ethereal melodies over classic, very fulfilling drum machines. the melancholic singing of space whales over deep and bubbly analog basses. the little raver ep is a house music ufo destined to arouse wonder and astonishment on any dance floor.

if *the wanderer* was the record that brought romanthonys obscure blackmale label to a wider dj audience, *testify* was the release that cemented its reputation as one of the labels to check for in the us import section. here are brandnew remixes: jimmy edgar, in true blackmale style, takes romans original chops it in his sampler and lays the results over a thundering distortion tinged beat. it is proper raw jacking business, perfect for small dark rooms with a few hundred sweaty bodies. waifs & strays deliver a brilliant modern update complete with an air-punching sax solo (something that was definitely one of the nails in the deep house coffin the first time round and the kind of thing that could get you shot if you used in the 00s). illyus & barrientos deliver what is arguably their strongest remix to date dropping snips of the original over a quite brilliant bassline groove. ed one & boddenalso opt for some bassline action but add in classic organ stabs and todd edwards style vocal chops to their big-ass bass wobbler. lastly, we have the previously unreleased cd#9 vocal version which as usual, features one of romans deeper, more organic mixes.

las finest peaking lights give bart davenport a dubby synth makeover with a california sunset flavour. after releasing his physical world album on vinyl and cd with us earlier this year, on cassette with the über everything burger records, and subsequently premiering it on pitchfork, bart davenport officially became the king of cool. surely you can t get much hipper than that? the thing is, you can. because lo and behold, we have a remix of el bartos *girl gotta way* by none other than peaking lights. on 10 inch vinyl. with a stick-on beard tucked in the sleeve. okay, no beard. but the other stuff is true. without losing any of the melancholy of the original, our la friends come up with a balearic-via-west coast affair, replacing some of the nostalgic sounding guitars with equally longing keyboards and gorgeous synth lines, invoking the sounds of ryuichi sakamotos *beauty*. score!

low-down and dirty jazz goes right back to the early 1900s in storyville, after the bands had played their hot tunes in the evening for dancing couples, the musicians would head off to the after-hours joints and play a less energetic but more bluesy kind of music, enabling them and their late-night audiences to get through to the early hours of the morning without suffering total exhaustion. and nobody in new orleans laid into the blues so low down and dirty as buddy bolden, whose funky butt became a staple in the repertoire of the citys early jazz bands.

the ep is called spotlight diktat in reference to the feeling some djs have when they are on tour. a kind of dj melancholia generated by airplanes, dehumanized hotels, waiting hours in boring terminals, basically traveling alone. i made these tracks out of this mood. at first they sounds like the typical groovy dance tracks, but when the melody comes out, you immediately feel there is something wrong now the track is on and you still dance (of course its made for that) but you could almost cry to it too. so this is what happens when a dj or a producer has to do their job, but they aren t really in the mood for it. when the party comes, they just forget everything and make the show happen regardless. they have to bear the spotlight diktat and keep on entertaining people regardless of what they have in mind.
